July Behind the Scenes: Our Personal Faves

Wendy’s July Favorites:

- Family time was the theme of this month. We kicked off the month with a trip to the mountains in Virginia filled with delicious recipes, reading on the screened-in porch, cooking with my niece, fireworks, and boating fun. And my husband and dad’s annual fishing trip at the end of the month gave me a chance to have a girl’s night with my sister - sushi, wine, two chick flicks, and a sleepover……the perfect way to end July.

- In the Kitchen: Loving this easy and summery breakfast from my friend Caroline of Flourish Living - Strawberry Honey Ricotta Toast

Watching: The absolutely awe-inspiring athletes competing in the Olympics. No matter who wins the medals, it’s a joy to watch the stories of these incredible humans fiercely devoted to what they love.

Grateful for: Lots of inquiries from military spouses and nonprofits who want to collaborate with us to create something that honors their mission and celebrates their members.

Madison’s July Favorites:

- Biggest Lobster I Have Ever Seen: Started off the month with a trip to Long Island for the 4th of July weekend. While there I held one of the biggest lobsters I have probably ever seen in my life at a lobster restaurant/farm. This guy was close to 20 pounds I think if I'm remembering correctly, and no we did not eat him if you were curious. I was honestly a little bit nervous holding this guy, even though the claws were secured, which you cannot tell by the photo but I was smiling hard through the nerves. The staff let you walk around the farm to see where they house the lobsters, which was both cool to see and a little sad. If you're ever in Long Island and looking for a good lobster, check out Jordan’s Lobster Farm in Island Park, New York.

- Trip to Philly to Visit Girlfriends - I went on a quick weekend trip with my girlfriends to visit one of our girlfriends in Philly. We had such a fun girls weekend, with a few places that I would highly recommend!

1. If you are into workout classes, we took a cycling class at Cycle Bar in Center City. This was only my second cycle class that I have ever taken so I was a little nervous beforehand, but I was pleasantly surprised and had so much fun.

2. We went to grab coffee at Enswell, which by day is a coffee shop and by night it's a dinner and cocktail bar. We only went to grab a coffee but I would love to go back sometime for dinner and drinks. The atmosphere was 10/10!

3. Apricot Stone - an Armenian restaurant that is BYOB. If you like Mediterranean food, you will love this place. There are so many dips/spreads and kabobs to choose from. It was a great place to go with a group especially if you are in the mood to share!

- The summer weather has been all over the place throughout the month of July. I have been going on walks whenever the weather has been nice, seeing these bright pink flowers throughout our neighborhood always brighten up my day.

- Wordle: I am very late to the game with this one, but I have been obsessed with playing the daily Wordle and Connections games on the New York Times app . If you love puzzles and brain teaser games, both of these will really have you thinking. They are so much fun and it's a small thing that I look forward to each day.

- Hair Mask I am Obsessed With: For the last couple of months I have switched from using a shampoo and conditioner to using a shampoo and nourishing hair mask whenever I wash my hair. Granted I personally have super thick hair that I wash 2 maybe 3 times per week max. I have been absolutely loving the Amika Soulfood hair mask, it has helped keep my hair shiny, soft and nourished, and the scent is the best part!

- Grateful for: At the end of the month, Brian was off on his annual fishing trip for a week. That meant I got to spend lots of quality time with Wendy and also my grandma, who came to visit us for a couple of days. We made lots of tasty meals and watched the Olympic events almost every night! My personal favorites have been watching both the women's and men’s gymnastics events.

What We're Currently Loving:

- Looking forward to the 2 weddings I will be attending next month (Madison)
