This week in our Moms Who Inspire series, we're sharing an interview with one of the sweetest gals around - Sarah Dressler of Skirt Effect. Sarah is a fellow military spouse and small business owner and designs the most beautiful skirts for you and your mini me. I am honored to share Sarah's story this week and am inspired by her faith, love of family, and dedication to doing what she loves most!
Tell us a bit about what you do?
Hi I'm Sarah. I'm a mom and a military spouse so I'm pretty busy most of the time. I design and hand-make my own line of skirts dresses and accessories for women and girls. I started making skirts in 2015 as a creative hobby and something to do in my spare time. What I didn't know then was how much I would LOVE it.
Who inspired you to start your own business?
My husband and friends really encouraged me to follow my heart and make it work.
What’s your best tip for juggling your mama and business responsibilities?
Setting grounded priorities and building from there. For me, my Faith is the foundation from which all my decisions are made. Don't be afraid to take on something new but know that if you're feeling stretched too thin, you probably are; think about what you can cut out.
Tell us one special thing you do together as a family - whether it’s a weekly celebration or an annual tradition?
I homeschool my children and although most people think it's a burden, it is a special blessing to be able to train them up in the way they should go. My children love their extra time together and I love seeing all their small and large victories each day.
What do you do to take care of you so that you’re the healthiest mama you can be?
Fitness is really important to me. Even though I hate working out. I also get a lot of my creative ideas while I'm working out, which is a bonus!
What inspires you to keep doing what you do every single day?
I like that I can be a positive example for my children. They get to see me do something I love. I make it a point to continue to learn new skills. From sewing to sketching, cooking to gardening, I like the challenge. I also love being able to help other women reclaim their beauty and help them feel confident every day and for every occasion.
We are quote lovers around here and would love to know what your favorite quote is?
"For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat." We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good." - Paul in the second letter to the Thessalonians 3:10-13
