I’ve been on the green smoothie train for several years now – certainly before it became trendy. My kids used to look at me like I was crazy when I offered to share, but now that green smoothies have become so popular, they are blending up their own secret recipes.
Now I know that some people just can’t get past the bright green color, but I promise you won’t even taste the greens. Smoothies are my favorite breakfast because they are simple, they keep me full until lunch, and I get 3-4 servings of fruits and vegetables right out of the starting gate. A win-win in my book!
I recently joined the 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge from Simple Green Smoothies and it’s been super fun! Yummy smoothie recipes every week for 30 days….and totally free. It’s been great to try new combos that I would never have thought of. You can check out some of the delicious recipes right on their website.
As much as I like to try new smoothie recipes, I always seem to come back to this one. My go-to smoothie is loaded with vitamin-C and is tart and refreshing.
Citrus Blast Green Smoothie
1 ruby red grapefruit, peeled
1 orange, peeled
1/3 cucumber, peeled if not organic, & cut in chunks
1/2 cup frozen mango cubes
2 TBSP hemp seed
1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves
Add peeled grapefruit and orange to blender, then add remaining ingredients on top. Blend until smooth.
To make my life even easier and to be sure I have a healthy breakfast every day, I’ve started making large batches of smoothies each week. I pour them into 12 ounce Ball jars and pop them into the freezer. Then before bed every night I put one jar into the refrigerator to defrost for the next day. It’s been a big timesaver and I love not having to think about what to eat every day.
