When Charliemadison Originals opened our doors to a new website this year, I knew that one of our missions would be giving back. I’ve spent most of my adult life as a military spouse – my husband served 20 years in the U.S. Navy – and we’ve both been so proud and honored to be a part of the military community. We’ve made lifelong friends through our military connections and giving back to others within the military community means so much to us!
As a military spouse that has always had a career, I know how difficult it is when you have to leave your job to move across the country or around the world when your spouse gets orders for a new duty station. I lost my well-paying job twice when we transferred to Okinawa, Japan and then back again to the U.S. It’s definitely stressful – emotionally and financially! And back in 2000, I didn’t have access to the resources available today.
I was thrilled to recently connect with a wonderful organization – The Milspo Project – a sweet group of ladies that is passionate about empowering and educating military spouse entrepreneurs. And I’m proud to be giving back to their organization to help them spread their message around the world. The Milspo Project provides resources and support to military spouse entrepreneurs through live events, community meet ups, and their blog – they even host a monthly book club that’s free to join (this month’s book is “the dip” by Seth Godin.)
Their President and Co-Founder, Elizabeth Boardman shared with me how much they love the community of women (plus a few men) who subscribe to their e-mail list, and follow them on social media, because they are already leaders in the military community.
On September 26, 2015 The Milspo Project will host their second annual EMBARK Business Conference for Military Spouse Entrepreneurs – this year, they’re bringing in some major talent that will specifically speak to the needs and struggles of the military spouse business owner. It will be held live in North Carolina or online anywhere in the world. Learn more about the conference and buy tickets here.
If you’re a military spouse entrepreneur looking to connect with others who can totally relate to the challenges you face, you can find the Milspo Project online at www.themilspoproject.com, on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
XO,
Wendy
